Proverbs are vehicles for transmitting metaphorical messages of the 'ringing a bell' type. Because food is very important in humans ' lives, it seems clear that humans experience becomes relevant to exchange wisdom by using food in witty sayings like those you have to deal with. The first one points to an urge to get experience in whatever you need or want to as it cannot do any harm by trying to live through 'doing' and 'performing'. And the second is about values that wins over Time and how the new can get along with the old to make something better, even extraordinary. New ideas always have old seeds as a starting point, and we should not forget that. To build something up means to start from the basis which is almost certainly about the 'old pot'. This is the foundation of humanity. The 'old pot' is the history with good and bad things humans built throughout the millenia, while the good broth is the present we live. If this is really good or not, future generations will decide whether to change what now is the 'good broth' but tomorrow it will be 'the old pot'.
