b. Yes, they can prevent the damage, by giving up to unhealthy resources, stop the petrol and gasoline marketing and trying to find natural sources to make oiil from. 
c. In my opinion yes, because the earth always finds a way to survive, with or without us. We are living on this planet not to necessarily save the earth, but saving us from exctinct.
