Technology defines us as humans, no other living creature in this world has the ability to plan, to create, to anticipate, to develop ideas and concepts and to put them into practice.
The technological development has begun with the invention of tools and weapons and with the discovery of fire during the period we call Prehistory. In time, man has passed through different stages of technological advances, with remarkable breakthroughs. Mentions must be made to the Industrial Revolutions in the 19th and 20th centuries, when steam engine was invented and used in various fields to reduce man's physical efforts. The 20th century was characterised by the discovery of electricity, computers; it also marks the first voyage of humans in the extraterrestrial space. Then, the 21st century has brought about an explosion of research and development innovations in many tehnological sectors, from medical discoveries and genetic finds to the latest progresses in spacecrafts and space tools used by humans on other planets.
On one hand, technology has the enormous advantage of making life easier for the humans. We have access to information in no time due to the Internet, our life is safer thanks to the medical inventions and discoveries, our time to get from one place to another is shorter because of the faster transport means. Machines and sofisticated equipment take over huge physical tasks, all we need to do is to know which button to press.
On the other hand, technology development reduces the chance of people to find work, because humans have been replaced by machines and there are so many homeless and hungry persons in the world. Another huge disadvantage is that technology generates harmful residues for our health and increases the pollution. Technology uses the ressources of the Earth in an extremely fast and unhealthy way, degrading and exhausting the planet. However, technological progress cannot be stopped, in spite of all specialists' warnings and concerns regarding the health and safety of Terra.
Humans have constantly evolved throughout the milleniums and they will continue to take further steps towards innovative technological approaches of the world and of the Universe. If this is a right or wrong way, well, it remains to be discovered.
