The most suitable environment for an animal to live in is, of course, their natural habitat. For example, a water park is a stressful environment for an orca as there are many people around, talking and sometimes screaming and shouting. Moreover, orcas are predators and could kill a human without an effort, so their presence can be a danger for us.
Keeping a pet is not a cruel thing at all, though it depends on the situation. Having a cat or a dog as a pet is something normal and useful, as dogs and cats couldn't live on the streets. Plus, humans most often create bonds with them. But having a parrot as a pet wouldn't be a happy scenario for them. Though they are fun and cute because some of them can talk, they shouldn't be kept in cages their entire life.
Harsh punishments for poaching (braconaj) is one of the best solutions to stop species from becoming endangered. Also, deforestation has lead to the extinction of many species so that should be solved too.
