a) For children, the advantages are that they can learn how to take care of a pet and have company, which will make the child feel better. The disadvantages of owning a pet as a child is that you may not be able to take care of it or you may not have enough time for that.

b) For old people, the advantages are that the pet can help you with many things, as well as make you feel better. The disadvantages are that, as they are old people, probably they won't be able to take care of a pet properly.
