Travelling from France to UK and back can be quite an interesting experience. This year I decided it was time to visit Stonehenge. On a beautiful sunny Saturday morning I hit the road towards Calais. Just after I left Paris, I realized that it would be faster if I travel through the tunnel and not by ferry. I made a short stop at a gas station and enjoying a good coffee I booked an Eurotunnel ticket for 11 a.m. It was quite expensive 144 Euros one way, because I didn't know how long would I spend in UK.
When I arrived at Calais, everything went smoothly: I arrived at the main entrance, collected my ticket and the sign with the number of the gate and waited patiently less than 30 minutes until I could get into to train. The train arrived at Folkstone in about 40 minutes.
Stonehenge is not far away from Folkstone, about 150 miles. The rocks were quite interesting to be seen (not to mention that the access to them cost 55 pounds!); however, after a couple of hours I felt quite bored and left the place, as there wasn't anything else to be seen there. Therefore, I decided to go home, but this time I thought it would be cheaper to cross the Channel by ferry. So I headed to Dover and quite soon I was in front of the clerk and I paid 104 pounds for the access on the ferryboat. After passing through customs, I embarked on the ferry. The crossing was more than 4 hours this time.
I arrived home just after midnight, and asked myself if it was worthy to do such an expensive trip. If I had booked a return ticket for the Eurotunnel in due time, two-three weeks before the trip, they would had cost me less than 140 euro.
Next time I will plan carefully my trips to avoid all unnecessary expenses!
