On a short section it marks the border between Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova, after which it enters the Republic of Moldova. On its left bank is the Moldovan separatist region of Transnistria, and then the river again becomes the border between Moldova and Ukraine, before crossing Ukrainian territories.
