Mike had the letter in his hand, his heart pounding in his chest as he realized that time was running out. This was his last chance to send the letter before it was too late. He had to get to the post office in double quick time, but it was already getting late and he knew that the post office would be closing soon.

Mike had been meaning to send this letter for weeks now, but something always seemed to get in the way. Work, family, and other commitments had taken up all of his time, and he had kept putting it off until it was almost too late. Now, he had to move quickly if he wanted to get it done.

He ran out of the door, the letter clutched tightly in his hand, and jumped into his car. He started the engine and raced through the streets, dodging other cars and pedestrians as he went. He could feel his heart racing as he thought about what would happen if he didn't make it in time.

As he pulled up to the post office, he saw that the door was already closing. He jumped out of the car, ran towards the door and pushed it open just in time to slip inside. The post office worker looked up at him and raised an eyebrow as he rushed towards the counter.

"I need to send this letter," Mike said, panting for breath. "It's really important."

The worker took the letter and looked at the address. "Sorry, sir," she said. "The last collection has already been made. I'm afraid this letter won't be delivered until tomorrow."

Mike felt his heart sink. He had been so close, but now it seemed like he had failed. He took a deep breath and tried to think of another way to get the letter delivered.

"Is there any way I can get this letter to its destination tonight?" he asked, desperation creeping into his voice.

The worker thought for a moment and then nodded. "I can send it by courier," she said. "It'll cost a bit more, but if it's really important, it might be worth it."

Mike nodded eagerly and handed over the money. As he walked out of the post office, he breathed a sigh of relief. He had done it. He had managed to get the letter sent, even though it had seemed impossible.

As he walked back to his car, he felt a sense of accomplishment wash over him. He had faced a challenge and had come out the other side. He knew that whatever the outcome of the letter might be, he had done everything he could to make sure it arrived on time.
