I think there is great value in every student having a computer for school, but I don't agree that it should be a requirement. If the school gets them for every student, that's great. But it would be too expensive as requirement for schools in general (maybe for private school it would work just fine) Computers were first designed to simplify work for people.
Having computers for the school projects allows students to be technologically ready for the future. Those computers would not only benefit us in terms of technological readiness, but also in terms of organization. But some students are even more disorganized electronically than they are on paper. I know a friend who names every single Word document "Homework_X.doc," with a number, imagine that. But on paper he does a pretty good job. Another advantage is that we can save paper by turning in work online.
But of course there are some drawbacks, like some children who would abuse this privilege and use them for different purposes: like online shopping, playing games or social networking. That’s why is should be done under strict supervision. So if that’s the case, I don’t think they should really take away opportunities from hard-working students because of a group of bad kids. The answer is very controversial.
Education is designed for students to learn and strive to become the very best they can be. So it would be an investment for the future.
