1. The commissary entered the bar with the stranger and asked: "What did you do yesterday between 9 and 10 o'clock?"
2. The stranger answered: "When the murder occurred, I was in the bar playing cards with Mr. Doodle."
3. "Did anybody see you?" wanted to know the commissary Montag.
4. "While we were playing cards, a young man who was sitting at the counter watching us all the time."
5. The commissary was getting angry.
6. Finally he thought for a moment and then he asked the stranger: "What was the young man doing when you entered the bar?"
7. "When I first saw him, he was whispering to a waiter in a corner."
8. Hearing all this, Montag seemed to be very surprised.
9. While he was talking to the stranger, he heard Mr. Doodle talking to the waiter.
10. Montag didn't understand what they were talking about.
11. While he was still trying to understand the two men, Inspector Datson entered the door.
12. When he saw what was happening in the bar, he hurried towards the commissary Montag.
13. He gave him a sheet of paper that the stranger recognized immediately.
14. While Montag was staring at the note, the stranger was thinking about the way he could run away from the bar.
15. When he was about to run out of the door, he was arrested by the two policemen who were waiting outside.
