1. I agree with this statement, manners do make the man. I believe that manners are the most important in life. If you do not have them, it doesn't matter how much money or fame you have.
2. At night, when it is dark, a candle (or a source of light) is the most important thing to have. 
3 Having combat gear or any sort of weapon doesn't make you a man, it doesn't make you smart, or even brave. A smart person knows when to use weapons, but also knows when not to get in a fight. A man knows that you don't need combat gear to fight or defeat your enemies, when it can also be done with just a few words.
4 Though it talks about aliens, this statement is not about extraterrestrial beings, it talks about people being "alien" or "foreign" in a different country. A legal alien is a person who has moved to a country using legal means and legal documents.
