No home . No job. No worries. When he list his flat , writer Cj Stone decided to " go on the road " . How will he cope with life in the slow line ? I didn't wake up one morning and say to myself. I think l'll go and live in a van. It was more accidental than that. First of all I list my flat and then , at the same time , I discovered I neaded a new engine for my car. That meant that I would have to spend $ 1,000 to get the car back on the road. I suddenly found that I needed first somewhere to live and , second something to travel around in . So , I rang the number in an ad and arranged to go and see a " converted ambulance " It was love at first sight ! I made my decision straightaway. Two days later I was the proud owner of a two-litre Ford Thansit converted into a camper van. At first I was nervous. I wasn't sure I could handle it where would I parck ? How would I wash ? What would I do in the evenings ? But I needn't have worried. Well , not too much . It's a lot casier than I thought. Parking can be most difficult. So far l've slept in several car parks and lay-bys , one or two festival sites and-once or twice-just by the roadside . Since I started living in my van, l've had fulings I haven't experienced since I was a child. You look out of the window, and some new sight greets you. One problem l've had is power for my computer. After all , I am a writer. I stayed on campsites that had ellectricity whenever I wanted to work. But it cost a lot. And then I found the solution : solar penels. Living in a van is cheap . No rent. No obligations. And on top of that there s the sense of freedom and the happiness. I love being able to go anywhere when I want It's wonderful to feel that the whole world is your home.
