Yes,I do believe that written exams are a form of assessment because they evaluate what do we know and what we've learnt.

I think it's also a way to evaluate teachers,for example if the whole class wasn't good at the test than the teacher has a problem.

I am not good with the idea that the teacher gives on the exam paper things that the students learnt years ago or things that they haven't learnt and expect they kids do good or even give a exam paper right after they learnt a lesson!The students need time to learn!
