Ursus arctos, although Holarctic species spread throughout the region, for Romanian brown bear is an animal par excellence Romanian.

Some specimens are white spots on the neck, sometimes forming a true collar, similar to the collared bear the Himalayas.

Bears are large carnivores,bulky,heavy and cumbersome. Holarctic species widespread in the region, with some species in South America.They are omnivorous animals.  Malaysian Bear is the smallest representative of the family: body lenght 1,2- 1,5m, weight 27-70 kg. Brown bears have a lenght of 2,4-2,7m polars bear and a weight of 400-590 kg. The highest representative is the grizzly with a lenght of 2,8 m and a weight of 780 kg, which is the largest carnivorous mammal today. They live up to 15-30 years in the free state and in captivity, a polars bear lived 47 years.
Bears are generally large round head and short neks and thick. The muzzle is long and usually truncated and lips are moving, far detached from the gum. The ears are short, straight and rounded ana relatively smal eyes. The tail is short, vestigial and usually hidden in the fur brushes. Front and rear legs under long, strong and thiks, have fire fingers provided with claws large, strong, curved, sharp and unretractable, which they use to tear the prey and dug earth. The freet, the hairy bears are terrestrial and those climbers, bare. Food being of both animal and vegetable. After passing the winter eats a number of herbs, roots, moss and ants.
