It's Christmas time, the most wonderful and jolly time of the year. I've been waiting for this for such a long time, but finally another year has passed by, another winter has come and there are more presents to get and to be given. It is once again the cold but yet delightful December and we're all counting down the days until the beloved Christmas Eve, when Santa Clause and his elves give us a brief visit and drop off our well deserved presents and gifts. Here, in London, we have something called the "Advent Calendar". We as children absolutely adore using it, and you'll soon see why.

Before the Christmas Eve arrives, children and grownups alike are counting down the days and nights until Christmas. The shops are full of last-minute shoppers buying and presents they can find for their loved ones and the streets are bustling with crowds wandering about, admiring the winter decoations dangling from the roofs of buildings. Us, young children, use Advent Calendars to count down the days left until Christmas and every evening, we take out a little piece of the treat filled calendar, until there are none left, and that is, of course, Christmas Evening.

On the Christmas Eve, the whole family and sometimes even the extend family members like grandparents, uncles and aunts as well as cousins come to our house to enjoy the best meal of the year. The table is filled with English traditional food specialities such as mashed potatoes with gravy sauce, Yorkshire pudding, black pudding, roasted turkey meat and many, many more.
Then, after dinner, we tend to play board games such as scrabble, monopoly and chess together, and then we go off to bed, excited about the presents which we know will be awaiting us under our brightly lit and beautifully decorated Christmas tree.

The next morning, we all rush to the Christmas tree to open up our presents and say "thank you" to our presents or Santa Clause, although we all are old enough to know by now that he does not exist, at least not how he is seen by children these days.

I love Chistmas, it's the best time of the year because we all have such a great time together... Even if it often tends to rain in London on Christmas Day due to the local climate, we all know it's just the best time of the year.
