Thanks for your letter. I'm pleased (1) to hear / hearing / hear
that you're having a good time in York. How is the English course
going? (2) Are you allowed to / Do you have to do lots of
homework? What's your teacher (3)_ _? Is he friendly?

I had (5) wonderful time in Japan. My friend, Akiko,
invited me (6) stay / to stay / staying with her family in Kyoto.
Do you remember her? She's the girl (7) _ visited me last
summer. They have a house on a hill just outside Kyoto. There was
a beautiful (8) of the city from my bedroom window.
Akiko's family were incredibly kind and hospitable, and wouldn't
let (9) that I pay / me pay / me to pay for anything. We ate out a
lot. Japanese (10) is delicious – lots of vegetables, fish,
and rice. The weather was really nice. It was warm and
(11). except on the last day, when it turned cloudy and

gardens - the autumn colours were quite spectacular. (13) I'll send

developed. We went everywhere by train. I think Japan has
best trains in the world. They're never late!

your shoes in the house - you wear slippers (17)_ the
host provides. And you (18) have to / are allowed to make a loud
noise when you drink tea! (In fact, it's polite if you do!) I caught a

have to blow my nose in public as it's considered to be rude.Tomorrow my mother and father (20) came / were going to
come / are coming to stay for a few days. 1 (21) must / can clean
up the house before they arrive! Tomorrow evening (22) we're
