Călimănești is a town in Vâlcea County, Oltenia, Romania, consisting of the component localities Călimănești (residence), Căciulata, Jiblea Nouă, Jiblea Veche, Păușa and Seaca. The city is located in the northeastern part of Vâlcea County at the foot of the Cozia massif and the Căpățânii mountains in the Southern Carpathians, on both banks of the Olt River, at its exit from the gorge, being 20 km north of the county seat, Râmnicu Vâlcea and 80 km south of Sibiu. This locality, where Mircea cel Bătrân founded the Cozia monastery, has been known since the time of the Dacians, who discovered the beneficial effects of the thermal waters in the area. Călimăneşti - Căciulata enjoys a continental-temperate climate, without sudden temperature changes, characteristic of the sub-Carpathian depressions. The annual average is 9.7 degrees Celsius, the average temperature in July being 19 degrees Celsius, and in January -1.5 degrees Celsius. The average annual rainfall is 750-800 mm, the duration of sunshine is 110 days, and the relative humidity of the year is between 60-80%. The wind in the resort is directed from the Olt valley (N-W direction). During the summer there is a pleasant mountain breeze.
