Television is a pretty big part of the internet itself,and while the internet does have its good side when it comes to communication,so does reality talking. In my opinion,talking online to people is much more calming and better than real people. I have gotten insulted in reality face to face and it's much worse than being insulted online by some words that are virtually there.
Despite them being written by a person,it's just a more calming result.
And compliments are the same,on the internet people will tell you nice stuff sometimes,and personally it makes me feel better when someone who I never saw or knew likes something about me,in reality they can either say it just to make me feel better or something. Of course they can just because they see me that way,but I still appreciate online ones.
So really,I believe for a vast majority of us,the internet is helping on such small communications.
