The International Earth Day is being celebrated annually by environmental health activists and other people around the globe. It takes place on the 22nd of April and it is usually accompanied by events and customs meant to raise awareness of environmental issues. It was founded in 1970 by American senator Gaylord Nelson to reduce the number of politicians that were disinterested by the state of the environment. Before that, pollution was considered "a sign of prosperity" in the industry of cities. In 1990, almost 200.000.000 people around the world turned the 22nd of April into an international manifestation and, in 2009, the UN officially declared it the International Earth Day. People gather together and take place in activities that take steps into making the world a cleaner, greener place. Planting trees, cleaning rivers and turning off all electricity for an hour are amongst the most popular volunteering activities everywhere. This year in Bucharest, the National Geology Museum organized free tours to show people the events that shaped the Earth as we know it. Also, an event called " GO FORREST" took place in Crângași Park and incleded dance spectacles, workshops, street art and concerts. What we all must remember is that Earth is the only life-sustaining planet that we know and we must take control of the industrial damage that is being done to our only home.
