-Tom is smelling the fish to see if it's fresh.

-Sam and Eva are seeing some friends this evening.

-I see what you mean.

The explanation: They differ due to the fact that we use the present simple tense when we want to talk about fixed habits or routines – things that don't change. We use the present continuous to talk about actions which are happening at the present moment, but will soon finish.

Explicația:  Diferă din cauza faptului că folosim timpul prezent simplu când vrem să vorbim despre obiceiuri fixe sau rutine - lucruri care nu se schimbă. Folosim prezentul continuu pentru a vorbi despre acțiuni care se întâmplă în momentul prezent, dar care se vor termina în curând.
