A. Charlie Chaplin  became one of the best-known personalities in America within two years of his first appearance in motion pictures . He was so famous that no studio could afford to pay him , so he appeared only in films which he produced himself.

B. It happened at ten o'clock last night . John was sitting in his cosy living room with his wife and children . They were watching the evening news on TV when suddenly , the lights went out and everything in the house became quiet.

C. The boys were playing football on the river bank while the girls were talking. Everyone was enjoying the picnic when suddenly they herad a loud cry from further up the river . They all rushed to see what was wrong.

D. In prehistoric times , people lived in caves . They hunted animals which they then used for food and clothing . They made everything by themselves and they had  very simple lives.
