" Cinderella's horrible stepsisters laughed as they tried on their dresses. The dresses were for the spring dance. 'To bad you can't go" they jeered at Cinderella.
By that evening Cinderella had washed, dusted, polished and vacuumed every inch of the creaky old mansion. Cinderella longed to go to the dance, but she had to clean the entire manision."Besides" she said aloud, "I have only these old jeans to wear, I don't own a pretty dress." She looked out the open window of her dingy attic room. Tears gathered in her eyes as she watched her sister zoom away in their shiny sports car.
Just then a bluebird flew into the room. A yellow butterfly followed. Cinderella heard a soft, feathery voice say, " Don't worry, Cindi. We're going to help you get to the dance.''. It was the bluebird who was speaking."

1. Cinderella and her stepsisters live in a creaky old mansion.
2. They treat her badly, as if she is not their sister, but a servant. They make fun of Cinderella and make her do all the work in the house.
3. She really wants to go to the spring dance, but she has nothing to wear other that her old pair of jeans. She does not own a pretty dress like her sisters do, and this makes her sad. 
4. The modern Cinderella is a story that presents in a different, new way the traditional fairy tale that children love. In this version, Cinderella still has two older sisters that treat her very badly, like a servant, and that don't want her to go to the dance with them. Just like in the traditional story, Cinderella can't go to the dance due to the fact that she has nothing to wear and, after her sisters leave, she starts crying until she hears a voice. Even so, there are still some differences between the two versions: in this one, Cinderella's sister go to the dance in their sports cars, and not in beautiful, elegant carriages. Also, in the traditional story, girls do not wear jeans, only dresses.
