I, Sir Simon of Canterville, used to be a proud English noble man, until the Otis family, strange Americans, bought my ancestors' castle. Immediately after buying the castle, they moved into it and I faced unexpected situations.
I had proudly haunted the Canterville castle and had terrified its residents for centuries. It was my duty. But after the Americans moved here, I couldn’t do anything that they considered to be scaring and terrifying. I wasn't able any longer, no matter how hard I had tried.
Today, I’ll try again. I had tried in vain to terrify them with chain noises, with bloodstains and a lot of other ghostly tricks but in vain. If today’s attempt will be a new failure, as I become weaker and weaker by the day, I no longer want to make my presence known to them. There will be no use for it. I’ll try to rest in my rooms until these Americans leave the Canterville, sell it or even better they die!
