It was a dark and stormy night. The wind was howling and the rain was pouring. Sarah was sitting in her living room, feeling bored and restless. She had been reading the same book for the past hour, but she couldn't concentrate. She looked out the window and saw the lightning flashing in the distance. She wished she could go outside and feel the rain on her face.
Just then, she heard a knock on the door. She got up and opened it, and to her surprise, she saw her old friend, Jack. He was soaking wet and shivering. He looked exhausted and bedraggled.
"Jack! What are you doing here? Come in, come in!" Sarah said, pulling him inside.
"Thanks, Sarah. I'm sorry to show up like this, but I really need your help," Jack said, his teeth chattering.
"Of course, anything for you. What's going on?" Sarah asked, worried.
"I was driving home from work and my car broke down in the middle of the storm. I tried to fix it, but I couldn't. I was stranded and I didn't know what to do. I remembered that you lived nearby, so I decided to walk here and see if you could help me," Jack explained, his eyes pleading.
Sarah felt a surge of compassion for her friend. She grabbed a towel and wrapped it around him. She put on a pot of coffee and made him a sandwich. She listened to his story and offered him words of comfort and support.
As they talked, the storm outside grew even more intense. The wind was howling and the rain was pounding against the windows. The power went out, and the room was plunged into darkness. Sarah lit a candle and placed it on the table.
"Don't worry, Jack. We'll get through this together. We'll wait out the storm and then figure out a way to get your car fixed. You can stay here tonight, if you want," Sarah said, her voice soothing.
Jack looked at her gratefully. He felt a wave of relief wash over him. He was grateful for Sarah's friendship and kindness. He knew that he could count on her in his time of need.
